California and the Pacific Islands have long been on the frontier of extreme climate events and natural resource management in cities and communities. Urban forests have been a focus for federal research and state forestry assistance in California since the early 1980s, leveraging public resources to support healthy trees and forest cover. In this webinar, we will explore current research in the region and highlight a model, long-term partnership with California Polytechic State University (Cal Poly – San Luis Obispo) Urban Forest Ecosystems Institute. With fresh funding from the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA), we will learn about new directions and how local governments are using the tools. And we will have dialogue with our community of practice to catalyze replication of the partnership in other states, and application of the tools at a national scale.
Presenters:
- Natalie van Doorn, USDA Forest Service
- Matt Ritter, Cal-Poly-San Luis Obispo
- Ian Kesterson, City of Berkeley
