In case of accident or injury, the contestant and/or his/her employer agree to hold harmless the Wisconsin Arborist Association, its officers, board of directors, and event coordinators and judges. The certificate of insurance is available for inspection. A more thorough release form must be reviewed and checked below.Tree Climbing Championship Event Policies and Code of Conduct*1. The WAA TCC shall consist of a men’s & women’s division. The maximum number of climbers in the competition, including the defending champions, will be 45. *Two spots will be held for the previous year’s male & female champions. 2. Contestants must compete in the (5) preliminary events to qualify as one of the top place finishers to advance to the Masters Challenge. The preliminary events include Open ascent, Belayed Speed Climb, Work Climb Throwline, & Aerial Rescue. The competitors with the highest combined points for the (5) preliminary events will advance to the Masters Challenge. 3. Only In State Competitors are eligible to advance to the ITCC. The Wisconsin climber who placed first in the Masters Challenge will advance to the ITCC. 4. The WAA allows at least (5) Out of state competitors to participate in the preliminary events. If they place in the top (5) in the preliminary events, they would be allowed to compete in the Masters Challenge as a guest. (Can’t win awards) 5. It is each competitor’s responsibility to read, understand, and adhere to the current ITCC rulebook in its entirety prior to the event. 6. Competitors are required to respond to emails from the WAA TCC committee, attend mandatory meetings, including gear check & walk through of events. 7. In-Ring Judges and competitors are both eligible to receive ISA CEU’s for the event. 8. To be a WAA TCC division champion, competitors: a. Shall compete in all primary events and the Masters’ Challenge. b. Shall stay for the entirety of the Masters’ Challenge until the conclusion of the award ceremony. c. May be subject to Appendix 4 of the ITCC Rule Book. d. Must volunteer for at least one chapter event within the championship year to promote, teach, and share their experiences with other members. 9. Masters’ Challenge champions (first place male, first place female) will be eligible as Representative Competitors for the WAA chapter at the ITCC. a. WAA will pay the registration fee and up to $2500 for international travel reimbursement for the first-place male and female to compete at the ITCC. In addition to the competitor registration fee. b. WAA will pay the registration fee and up to $1500 for domestic travel reimbursement for the first-place male and female to compete at the ITCC. c. TCC Champions Policy 10. If a qualifying competitor is not able to attend ITCC or NATCC, the next highest-placing competitor in their respective male or female division (not solely based on points) will be offered the spot. 11. The Wisconsin Chapter will allow dogs or other well-behaved pets at the events, but will not be held liable, responsible, or otherwise involved with any interactions with the pet, including any accidents, mishaps, or injuries that occur due to the pet. The WAA shall not be liable for any injury to the pet or to visitors, competitors, other human or animal attendees of the event. 12. The TCC will be held rain or shine. In the event that severe weather is expected, the event may be pushed to an alternate date with Masters Challenge immediately following. 13. No refunds or cancellations will be available due to weather. 14. Cancellations with a full refund must be made up (2) weeks prior to the event, there are competitors on the waitlist or another individual willing to take the spot. 15. All event attendees must abide by the Code of Conduct. a. The WAA is committed to providing a safe, productive, and welcoming meeting and event environment for all participants. b. All participants, including, but not limited to board members, members, attendees, competitors, speakers, volunteers, sponsors, exhibitors, staff members, service providers, spectators, and all other connected with the event are expected to abide by this Code of Conduct. c. Expected behavior: Be considerate of others. Be respectful of others and viewpoints that may be different from your own. Be mindful of your words and actions. Comply with all rules, policies, and procedures of the facilities at which any event is being held. Address and report inappropriate behavior and comments that are discriminatory, harassing, abusive, offensive or unwelcome. d. Unacceptable Behavior: Unsportsmanlike conduct, vulgarity or disrespect to event officials, harassment, including sexual harassment, or discrimination based on age, ancestry, color, gender identity or expression, national origin, physical or mental disability, religion, sexual orientation, or any other characteristic protected by applicable laws, regulations, and ordinances. e. Anyone who is not complying with the code of conduct can and will be asked to vacate the premises at the discretion of the TCC Chairperson or Head Judge. 16. All who attend, volunteer, or compete do so at their own risk and must sign a waiver. 17. All children must be accompanied by an adult. Any children disrupting the event or creating an unsafe environment, including entering the competition ring, will be asked to leave. 18. All event attendees, volunteers, sponsors, vendors, and participants will treat the trees with the utmost care and respect, making efforts to not harm or damage them in any way. Efforts should be made to leave the event space and the grounds better than were found. I agree to abide by the Tree Climbing Championship Event Policies and Code of Conduct.Payment and Refund Policy*Payment Policy Cash, Personal Check, and all major Credit/Debit Cards are all acceptable methods of payment. Our Terms are payment in full at the time of registration or purchase. All goods remain the property of the Wisconsin Arborist Association until paid for in full. Returned checks will incur a $30 charge to cover banking fees and administrative costs. In an instance of a second returned check, we reserve the right to terminate the arrangement and, if agreed to, we shall insist on future cash transactions only. Consequently, all bookings and/or transactions and agreements entered into will cease with immediate effect until such time as any and all outstanding monies are recovered in full. Return Policy Refunds will be made if requested on or before September 4, 2026 with a $25 processing fee There will be no refunds for cancellations made within 14 days of the event, although substitutions may be permitted as long as they are a WAA member or become a WAA member. Refunds will only be considered in emergency situations at the Wisconsin Arborist Association’s discretion. Refunds will not be provided for registrants who do not attend the event. Notice of cancellation and/or substitutions must be made via email to admin@waa-isa.org or by calling Tina Johnson at 262-899-0060. A cancellation acknowledgement will be sent within 3 working days and fees refunded within 10 working days, subject to this Return Policy. We do not issue refunds once the event has occurred. I agree to the Payment and Refund Policy.Waiver (adopted in 2025)It is the intent of the WISCONSIN ARBORIST ASSOCIATION to hold regular Safety Programs/ Events (“Service event”) whereby member and non-member arborists donate their time and talents to provide Safety events for school groups, non-profits, and other organizations that fall within our mission. The volunteer performs the service of the volunteer’s own free will, without promise, expectation, or receipt of remuneration from WISCONSIN ARBORIST ASSOCIATION. The volunteer is not an employee or agent of WISCONSIN ARBORIST ASSOCIATION for any purpose and the volunteer’s service is not controlled or mandated by WISCONSIN ARBORIST ASSOCIATION. This Release and Waiver of Liability (the “Release”) executed on (Date of submission of this form) by (“Volunteer”) in favor of WISCONSIN ARBORIST ASSOCIATION, a nonprofit corporation, including all directors, officers, employees, agents, guests, volunteers and invitees (collectively, “The Service Group”). The Volunteer desires to work as a volunteer for the Service event and engage in the activities related to being a volunteer (the “Activities”). The Volunteer understands that the Activities may involve arboricultural services and/or recovering and handling waste and debris. The Volunteer hereby freely, voluntarily, and without duress executes this Release under the following terms: Release and Waiver: Volunteer does hereby release and forever discharge and hold harmless the Service Group and its successors and assigns from any and all liability, claims, and demands of whatever kind or nature, either in law or equity, which arise or may hereafter arise from Volunteer’s Activities with Service event and the Service Group. Volunteer understands that this Release discharges the Service Group from any liability or claim that the Volunteer may have against the Service Group with respect to any bodily injury, personal injury, illness, death, or property damage that may result from Volunteer’s activities with the Service Group, whether caused by the negligence of the Service Group or its directors, officers, employees, agents, guests, volunteers and invitees or otherwise. Volunteer also understands that the Service Group does not assume any responsibility for, or obligation to, provide financial assistance or other assistance, including but not limited to medical, health, or disability insurance in the event of injury or illness. Medical Treatment: Volunteer does hereby release and forever discharge the Service Group from any claim whatsoever which arises or may hereafter arise on account of any first aid, treatment, or service rendered in connection with the Volunteer’s Activities with Service Group. Assumption of the Risk: The Volunteer understands that the Activities may be hazardous to the Volunteer, including, but not limited to, arboriculture, recovering and handling waste and debris, loading and unloading, and transportation to and from work sites. Volunteer hereby expressly and specifically assumes the risk of injury or harm in the Activities and releases Service Group from all liability for injury, illness, death or property damage resulting from the activities. Insurance: The Volunteer understands that Service Group does not carry or maintain health, medical, or disability insurance coverage for any Volunteer. Each Volunteer is expected and encouraged to obtain or confirm his or her own medical or health insurance coverage. All costs for injury or loss above the coverage provided by the Volunteer’s insurance are the volunteer’s personal responsibility. Since Volunteer is not an employee of WISCONSIN ARBORIST ASSOCIATION, WISCONSIN ARBORIST ASSOCIATION does not provide worker’s compensation coverage for injuries or illnesses to the Volunteer arising out of Volunteer activities. Photographic Release: Volunteer does hereby grant and convey to Service Group all right, title, and interest in any and all photographic images and video or audio recordings made by Service Group during the Volunteer’s Activities with Service event, including but not limited to, any royalties, proceeds or other benefits derived from such photographs or recordings. Miscellaneous: Volunteer expressly agrees that this Release is intended to be as broad and inclusive as permitted by the laws of the State of Wisconsin, and that this Release shall be governed by and interpreted in accordance with the laws of Wisconsin. Volunteer agrees that in the event that any clause or provision of this Release shall be held to be invalid by any court of competent jurisdiction, the invalidity of such clause or provision shall not otherwise affect the remaining provision of this Release which shall continue to be enforceable.
