SUMMARY:Free UAA Webinar: ROW Reclamation: Right-of-Way Done Right
DESCRIPTION:Cutting the trees and eliminating brush is the easy part! \n\n\n\nGaining consistency and support from internal and external stakeholders is the hard part. This is the ‘secret ingredient’ our presentation will focus on. \n\n\n\nWe also will share how reclamation can galvanize the whole utility\, shore up interdepartmental collaboration and trust\, the veg team and contractors\, and individual job satisfaction. \n\n\n\nIn the end\, this all ripples back out into the industry where we need competent people joining our workforce and staying as a profession. \n\n\n\n1 CEU with live broadcast.

SUMMARY:Free Utility Arborist Association Webinar: LiDAR Uses with EVM Program and Wildfire Safety
DESCRIPTION:This webinar is to demonstrate how LiDAR information may be ingested by Utility Vegetation Management departments to better inform where there may be encroachment issues and/or risk of potential vegetation/asset impacts.  The webinar will focus on current use-cases in action to maintain Electric Distribution and Transmission asset safety at two California Utilities\, Pacific Gas and Electric Company and Southern California Edison.  The webinar will also focus on a brief history of LiDAR use in these utilities as well as where there may be potential use-cases to explore in the future. \n\n\n\nPresented by Seth Reid\, Kristopher Klerk\, Kelly Farley\, and Alisha Lomeli. \n\n\n\n1 CEU available with live broadcast.

SUMMARY:Free Utility Arborist Association Webinar: Do Utilities and Vegetation Management Contractors Really Need a Tree Risk Assessment Program?
DESCRIPTION:Vegetation can be a serious challenge for arborists and utilities\, causing service interruptions and even wildfires. Data-driven approaches based on reliable knowledge about the condition of vegetation support the transition from a cycle-based to condition and predictive-based maintenance\, increasing the process efficiency and safety. Satellite data and space technology made actionable via artificial intelligence allow to identify and prioritize critical segments of overhead lines affected by vegetation and improve tasking and reporting processes for arborists and utilities. Presented by Mike Neal. \n\n\n\nCEUs will be available with live broadcast.

SUMMARY:Free Utility Arborist Association Webinar: Incidental Line Clearance Arborists vs. Qualified Line Clearance Arborists

SUMMARY:Free UAA Webinar: Does the "Right Tree\, Right Place" Principle Unintentionally Wrong the Public Right-of-Way?
DESCRIPTION:The “Right Tree\, Right Place” (RTRP) principle covers many site characteristics\, but is most closely associated with overhead wires\, where it prescribes small-statured trees to mitigate the costs and danger of utility line clearance. In recent years\, as many entities—both governmental and non-governmental—have adopted RTRP for planting palettes\, the proportion of small-statured trees being planted in densely wired zones has dramatically increased. These trees have much smaller canopies\, much shorter lifespans\, and are concentrated within a few taxa (e.g.\, Rosaceae)\, as compared to taxonomically diverse palettes of large-statured street trees. While urban foresters and arborists strive to increase urban tree canopy and its attendant benefits\, especially in low-UTC\, often low-income\, neighborhoods\, they find themselves bound by a design principle that focuses primarily on fitting species to site (rather than altering site characteristics). At the same time\, RTRP may still not adequately mitigate risk from the increasingly frequent disturbances that affect vegetation near utility lines. I would like to delve into our findings from a series of inter-related studies—findings that indicate the need for an independent\, comprehensive cost-benefit analysis of the various solutions to utility line conflicts. I would also like to hear in person from utility arborists\, whom I believe have a unique perspective on these issues. \n\n\n\nPresented by Yasha Magarik. \n\n\n\n1 CEU with live broadcast.

SUMMARY:Free UAA Webinar: We are a Lifeline
DESCRIPTION:The UAA Environmental Stewardship Committee released the second in its environmental stewardship video series which highlights stewardship in the UVM industry. This second video\, titled “Lifelines”\, highlights how utility rights-of-way are an essential part of the ecosystems that sustain humans and the life around us. In this session we will show this latest video. Following the video\, we will continue the discussion of our role as land stewards in securing and maintaining those lifelines. This talk will focus to promote environmental stewardship\, land stewardship\, and fulfilling our roles as lifelines to the ecosystems that surround our utility corridors as our calling as UVM professionals. \n\n\n\nPresented by Phil Chen. \n\n\n\n1 CEU with live broadcast.
