SUMMARY:Free Webinar: The Importance of Utility Line Clearance
DESCRIPTION:Topic: Utility line clearance (pruning) is often misunderstood and leads to frustration and conflict between utility arborists and homeowners. Education is needed to help homeowners and managers differentiate good from bad utility pruning. This presentation will cover the following topics: Why utilities prune\, describe vegetation clearance approaches\, history of utility pruning\, problems of utility pruning and clarify solutions for utility pruning problems. \n\n\n\nBio: Randall H. Miller is with CNUC as the Director of Research\, Development and Industry Intelligence. Miller holds a bachelor of science degree in horticulture from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a master’s degree in urban forestry from the University of Wisconsin- Stevens Point. He is an ISA Board Certified Master Arborist and an ISA Certified Utility Specialist (IL-0225 BU). He has been Chair of the TREE Fund Board of Trustees\, President of the Utility Arborist Association\, twice Chair of the Edison Electric Institute Vegetation Management Task Force\, President of the Oregon Community Forest Council (now Oregon Community Trees)\, and editor of the ISA Rocky Mountain Chapter newsletter. He has served on the ISA Certification Test Committee and on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Arboriculture and Urban Forestry. Randall is recipient of the 2005 ISA RW Harris Author’s Citation and has the ISA Integrated Vegetation Management Best Management Practices and\, with Geoff Kempter\, the upcoming Utility Specialist Certification Study Guide among his credits. He speaks widely on arboricultural topics. \n\n\n\n1 CEU with live broadcast.

SUMMARY:Free Webinar: Alabama's Amazing Oak Diversity
DESCRIPTION:Oaks comprise the largest taxon of woody plants in North America\, with the highest diversity of oak species occurring in Alabama. With the wide variety of oaks and their tendency to hybridize\, oaks can be a challenge to identify. This webinar will review the differences between white and red oaks\, focusing on how to identify the major species as well as a few of the less common ones. Where species typically grow and any special uses will also be covered. \n\n\n\nSpeaker: Nancy Loewenstein\, Extension Specialist\, Auburn University Extension \n\n\n\n1 CEU with live broadcast.

SUMMARY:Free Webinar: Deciphering Plant Health and Vigor and their Effects on Pest Outbreaks
DESCRIPTION:Have you ever heard that a healthy plant is resistant to insects or that a stressed plant is more susceptible? Plant vigor and plant stress are commonly blamed for pest outbreaks but the research on this topic is not as clear cut. In this webinar\, Dr. David Held (Landscape Entomologist\, Auburn University) will explain the ideas of plant vigor and plant stress and how we expect plant feeding insects and mites respond to it. We will also explore how different groups of plant feeding insects (borers\, sap-suckers\, leaf chewers) respond to different states of plant health. This is a don’t miss webinar if you’ve ever used plant stress or vigor as a reason for a pest outbreak in woody plants. \n\n\n\nSpeaker: David Held\, PhD – Professor of Entomology\, Auburn University \n\n\n\n1 CEU with live broadcast.
