Classes + school work + on the job training in a municipal Forestry Division = Arborist Apprentice. The City of Eau Claire is currently accepting applications for an Arborist Apprentice. Following the State of Wisconsin guidelines for work-based learning, this position will allow you to go to school while receiving on the job training to become a tree care specialist (Arborist). As an Arborist Apprentice, you will progressively gain skills through the Wisconsin DWD’s Arborist Apprenticeship curriculum and uses those skills to perform arboricultural tasks within the City’s Urban Forest.

The City of Eau Claire’s Arborist Apprentice Program consists of not less than 6,440 hours of on-the-job learning including 440 hours of paid related instruction through the Wisconson Technical College System encompassing all aspects of tree care, from planting and pruning to managing diseases and insects, and operating associated equipment.

The ideal candidate must meet the following requirements: possess or obtain (within 6 months of hire) and maintain a valid Class A, B, C and D CDL license with an N endorsement, possess or obtain (within 1 year of hire) and maintain a valid Wisconsin Pesticide Applicator certification and license in category 3.0 Turf and Landscape or 6.0 R-O-W and Natural Area, possess or obtain and maintain all special provisions detailed in Appendix A of the job description, possess or obtain (within 1 year of hire) and maintain First Aid and CPR certification and other certifications (such as, Electrical Hazard Awareness) as provided by the City. Basic computer skills and a High School diploma or equivalent (GED, etc.) are required. Candidates will be required to pass a climbing and written aptitude test for this position.
