SUMMARY:Invasive Plant Management Workshop Events
DESCRIPTION:Back By Popular Demand \n\n\n\nMany people in southeastern Wisconsin work to control exotic invasive plants in our natural areas. SEWISC is teaming with Johnson’s Nursery\, Inc.TM to offer our Invasive Plant Management Workshops twice annually. Take this class to ensure that you are using the most appropriate\, efficient\, up-to-date\, and least environmentally damaging methods in your control efforts. \n\n\n\nThis is a hands-on\, bring-your-own lunch class. After an introduction to the general ecology of the five functional groups of invasive plants (shrubs\, perennial forbs\, clonal perennials\, grasses\, and annuals/biennials)\, we will discuss\, demonstrate\, and practice all applicable control methods (chemical and non-chemical) for these five plant types. \n\n\n\nTopics will also include: \n\n\n\n\nIdentification of our common and relatively new invaders\n\n\n\nPlanning and strategy for an effective control program\n\n\n\nUse of hand tools and herbicide application methods\n\n\n\nHerbicide concentrations\, mixing\, and safety\n\n\n\nRestoration strategies for badly infested sites\n\n\n\nNative planting suggestions for continued restoration\n\n\n\nRecord keeping

SUMMARY:FREE Urban Forestry Webinar: Approaches to Dealing With Circling Roots on Container-Grown Trees - A Prelude to the WAA Fall Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Container-grown trees are increasingly popular in a range of urban forestry and landscape applications. However\, arborists and landscapers are often concerned about defects associated with container growing. Dr. Bert Cregg and members of his lab have researched various approaches to dealing with root systems of container-grown trees over the past decade. In this webinar\, Dr. Cregg will highlight key findings from his group’s research and discuss practical implications for tree planters. \n\n\n\nJoin us for this FREE live webinar that is a prelude to the WAA Fall Seminar which ties into Dr. Cregg’s talk called “Quit Going in Circles: Managing Roots of Container-Grown Trees.” \n\n\n\n0.5 CEUs available \n\n\n\nPre-registration is required. Click on ‘Register Online’ on the right side of the screen to register. \n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Bert Cregg is a Professor in the Departments of Horticulture and Forestry at Michigan State University. He conducts research and extension programming on the physiology and management of trees\, with a focus on nursery and Christmas tree production and urban forestry. Dr. Cregg has a Ph.D. in Forest Resources from the University of Georgia and was a research plant physiologist for the USDA Forest Service and International Paper before joining the faculty at MSU. \n\n\n\nSpecial Thanks!\n\n\n\nThank you to UW-Extension for coordinating this event with us. We look forward to partnering on future events with you!
