SUMMARY:Growing Green: Apple Tree Grafting with Dan Bussey
DESCRIPTION:Apple Historian Dan Bussey is widely known for his expertise as the author of The Illustrated History of Apples In the US and Canada and his previous work as Orchard Manager for Seed Savers Exchange. Dan has been dedicated to the preservation and management of heirloom species\, and has brought many of them back from the brink of extinction. Although his work chronicles 16\,350 apple varietal listings\, he will be working with us to share the diversity of apples at the Riveredge Farm. Participants will learn how to graft 3 species of apples\, currently growing at our permaculture Farm\, onto M-2 semi-dwarf root stock. Registered participants get to take home and plant their 3 grafted apple trees. \n\n\n\nAges 16+

This qualification promotes the safety of people and property by providing a standardized and systematic process for assessing tree risk.The results of a tree risk assessment can provide tree owners and risk managers with the information to make informed decisions to enhance tree benefits\, health\, and longevity. \nThe TRAQ Renewal Course consists of a 5 hour educational course followed by a 3 hour assessment that includes both a written and field component. It is required that you attend the course and successfully pass the assessment in order to renew this qualification. 5 CEUs available. \nHosted by: The Wisconsin Arborist AssociationInstructor: Mr. Don RoppoloDon Roppolo is the Manager of Arboricultural Training for Davey Tree. He has been working in the tree care industry for over twenty-five years. During his career he has worked in the following capacities: taught arboriculture skills at universities and technical colleges\, municipal forestry\, arboricultural research\, and for the past sixteen years has worked in commercial arboriculture. He holds a bachelor of science in Agriculture with an emphasis in urban forestry from Western Illinois University\, and a master of science in Natural Resources with and emphasis in urban forestry from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. \nCOURSE ELIGIBILITYCurrent TRAQ holders can complete the course as early as three and one-half (3 1/2) years into their Qualification (18 months before your expiration date).
