SUMMARY:2026 WAA Day of Service
DESCRIPTION:VOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Click here for sign-up genius \n\n\n\nWe are hosting the first 2026 Day of Service at the WI Lion’s Camp. The site address is 3834 County Rd A\, Rosholt\, WI 54473. The event is scheduled for Wednesday\, October 7th. Lodging is available at the camp (pillow and sleeping bag) or there is a nearby hotel.   \n\n\n\nThe Lion’s Camp in Rosholt\, WI is a 440-acre property that includes a 45-acre private lake to provide quality camp experiences for Wisconsin youth and adults with disabilities at no charge. The Wisconsin Arborist Association had a successful work day in April of 2017 but since then there have been some severe weather events on the grounds that caused damage. The camp is in need of various forms of tree care ranging from pruning to removals. Some of the work needed is over the camp cabins and recreation center as well as removing hazards from the site. It would be beneficial to have bucket trucks and chippers. The larger wood can be used at the campfire pit and chips can be used on the trails so debris will not need to be hauled off site. \n\n\n\nOur work day will start at 8am. All volunteers bringing heavy equipment such as bucket trucks\, chip trucks\, and lifts\, please bring proper cones and signage to set up a safe work area. We plan to begin work around the main cabins and buildings before moving to the golf area to remove dead ash and other trees. This scope is dependent on the final number of participants.Lunch and refreshments will be provided by the Lion’s Camp. \n\n\n\nSafety: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is required for everyone entering the work zones\, including camp staff. Please contact Tina Johnson with any questions.  If you plan on attending\, please use the signup genius to let us know how many people are attending and what kind of equipment you can volunteer for the day by October 2nd so we can plan accordingly.

SUMMARY:IAA Careers in Arboriculture Demonstration Event
DESCRIPTION:At Morton Arboretum \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFinding your start in any industry can be a challenging task to take on. The first step is to identify what you are passionate about\, what you enjoy\, and where you can pursue an opportunity to grow your skills and experience. \n\n\n\nOur IAA Careers in Arboriculture Demonstration Event is designed to help career-seeking professionals interested in arboriculture do just that. Attendees will get to see live arboricultural practices and applications in action\, demonstrating how the work is actually done. You’ll interact with current arboriculture professionals and ask questions to learn more about the types of work that might interest you most. Alongside the demonstrations\, we provide lunch\, networking\, and a career fair to help attendees learn of current opportunities available in the industry. \n\n\n\nThe arboriculture industry is much more than chainsaws and large equipment. Attendees will learn of and explore the spectrum of career opportunities\, services\, and organizations within the industry that best fit their passions\, desires\, and skill set in a career in arboriculture. \n\n\n\nAttendees will be responsible for their own travel to and during this event. Lunch and refreshment breaks are provided. \n\n\n\nFor more information visit: IAA Careers in Arboriculture Demonstration Event | Oct 7\, 2026

He was honored as the 2023 Alex L. Shigo Award for Excellence in Education and the 2018 & 2024 L.C. Chadwick Award for Arboricultural Research. He has published over 200 publications and presented over 500 talks throughout the world. \n\n\n\nCOURSE CONTENT \n\n\n\nTree Biology and Mechanics: Participants will learn how to assess wood structure\, decay\, and tree mechanics\, and evaluate their impact on likelihood of tree or tree part failure. Participants will also learn how to identify and assess defects and conditions that may affect likelihood of failure. Tree Inspection and Assessment: Participants will learn about types of targets\, assess the likelihood of a tree or tree part impacting a target\, and estimate the consequences of tree or tree part failure. Participants will also learn how to assess site factors that may influence likelihood of failure. \n\n\n\nData Analysis and Risk Categorization: After learning the tree and target factors that must be assessed\, participants will combine likelihood of failure\, likelihood of impact\, and consequences of failure to derive a risk rating. This rating helps the assessor communicate tree risk to clients and risk managers\, and allows comparison of risk levels between trees. \n\n\n\nRisk Reporting: Participants will learn skills for clearly communicating tree risk to clients\, both in written and verbal reports. Participants will also learn about the key components that should be included in a report after completing a tree risk assessment. \n\n\n\nTENTATIVE AGENDADay 1: Educational Session (8:00am – 5:00pm)Course OpeningModule 1: Introduction to Tree Risk AssessmentBreakModule 2: Levels of AssessmentModule 3: Target AssessmentLunchModule 4: Site AssessmentBreakModule 5: Tree Biology and Mechanics (Outdoors)Day 2: Educational Session (8:00am – 5:00pm)Module 6: Tree Inspection and AssessmentBreakModule 7: Data Analysis and Risk Categorization (indoors)Module 7: Field Activity (outdoors)LunchModule 8: MitigationModule 9: ReportingBreakReview and Exam InformationDay 3: Exam (8:00am – 11:30am) Written examPerformance-based exam*Schedule subject to adjustment \n\n\n\nIncluded in your registration: –   course registration –   exam fee –   the TRAQ renewal manual (Access digitally) –   lunch\, beverages and snacks for the day \n\n\n\nTravel and lodging is on your own. \n\n\n\nWhat is required to bring to the class: – your government issued photo ID – your hard hat and high visibility vest or shirt (required) – #2 pencils and your clipboard for taking notes and completing worksheets – rain gear\, including a large ziplock bag (just in case!) – come prepared to spend part of the day outdoors – please dress for your comfort level indoors and outdoors;     we cannot always control the room temperature to suit everyone \n\n\n\nSpecial Testing Accommodations Requests:If you have an accommodation request\, please complete the Special Accommodations Request Form and submit it with your application.
