DESCRIPTION:Course Description: \n\n\n\nThe highest credential a member of the International Society of Arboriculture can achieve is the Board-Certified Master Arborist certification. This course is designed to prepare practitioners for the BCMA exam through content lectures\, discussion\, exercises\, review\, and self-assessments. The course consists of nine\, 3-hour modules presented over nine consecutive weeks. The BCMA Guide for Exam Preparation provides the framework for instruction. The lectures\, and exercises developed by Duntemann Urban Forestry are intended to provide participants with a comprehensive review to prepare for their exam. \n\n\n\nCourse Structure:\n\n\n\nThe time and money any one individual invest to prepare for the BCMA exam can be considerable. Understanding this\, Mark created a training experience that strives to reinforce participant strengths and identify areas of needed concentration. The primary goal is to provide participants with the tools to think critically. The structure of the course was designed to facilitate these ends. \n\n\n\nOn registering\, registrants will be provided the preliminary assessment from the BCMA Guide. Mark will review and discuss the results of this preliminary assessment with each registrant in preparation for the course.Participants will complete and submit chapter practice questions at the end of each module.An analysis of responses from the previous module’s exams will be presented and reviewed at the beginning of the subsequent module.Two case studies will be provided for each module. One as a take home assignment for that week.Course participants will complete and submit the sample exam from the BCMA Guide at the series’ end.After the course’s completion participants will confer with Mark to review their practice test results. Mark will schedule a one-on-one conversation with each participant. Mentoring will include recommendations for additional study and targeted references.Workshop materials include a detailed narrative related to each module\, case studies\, exercises\, and sample exams. Additionally\, each participant will receive a certificate of participation will be provided. A TIP that’s high and central in the crown provides maximum mobility for a climber\, but the TIP also has to be strong enough to bear the loads associated with climbing. Until recently\, very few measurements of such loads were taken. Starting with the ITCC in 2017\, Dr. Kane has measured loads at the TIP for a variety of situations including ascents\, descents\, limb walks and swings\, and falls. SUMMARY:ISA Virtual Annual Conference & Trade Show
DESCRIPTION:ISA has made the difficult decision to cancel our in-person 2020 ISA Annual International Conference and Trade Show slated for 15-17 December 2020. The safety and well-being of our attendees\, members\, employees\, partners and vendors remains our top priority. This decision was made due to recent developments in COVID-19 cases\, the restrictions placed by public health officials on large gatherings through 2020 in Albuquerque\, New Mexico\, and the overall climate surrounding travel and meetings. We want to take this time to thank the ISA Rocky Mountain Chapter for their leadership throughout the entire planning process. The members of the Conference Planning Committee were prepared to host an exceptional conference and we cannot thank them enough for their insights and efforts. While we are disappointed we will not be able to meet in person this year\, we are excited to announce that ISA is working towards a virtual experience where attendees will have the opportunity to earn continuing education units\, listen to Keynote Speakers\, engage with presentations and presenters\, and network with their peers from the comfort of their homes. ISA plans on making this event accessible on a global scale reflecting our international community\, and we look forward to sharing more information in the coming weeks on how to participate in this virtual experience. ISA thanks all of its members\, attendees\, and partners for their continued support and enthusiasm for this event\, and we look forward to meeting virtually this year\, and in-person as soon as we are able to do so safely. \n\n\n\nMore information can be found on the ISA website.

SUMMARY:SAWW - Chainsaw Safety Level 1 (Women-only)
DESCRIPTION:Learn to operate a chainsaw safely and efficiently in this certified Safety and Woods Working (SAWW) training course.  \n\n\n\nWe offer this class to women only\, in an effort to create an atmosphere of learning that recognizes saw operation techniques and learning tools that match participants’ needs. All SAWW Level 1 concepts will be covered. Women are encouraged to register for either class. \n\n\n\nThis course is certified through the Safety and Woods Working (SAWW) training program and is part of a four-level series designed to increase safety and efficiency of chainsaw use. Participants in Level 1 training will spend part of the morning in the outdoor classroom\, and at least 5 hours outside practicing techniques to operate chainsaws safely\, comfortably and productively. Topics covered include personal protective equipment (PPE)\, body mechanics\, chainsaw safety features\, the chain and the cutter tooth\, reactive forces\, planning and executing tree felling\, intro to limbing\, and bucking. Level I introduces the participant to bore cutting and open face felling\, and develops the mechanics to execute these techniques. Hands-on training gives participants the opportunity to fell at least one tree. \n\n\n\nWorkshop leader: Luke Saunders (Forester with Adaptive Restoration LLC).
