SUMMARY:Identifying Barriers to Equitable Tree Planting and Quantifying Potential Benefits to Overcoming Them
DESCRIPTION:This seminar will offer strategies to work with diverse audiences to increase tree equity in the Chicago region. It will present the results from two recent surveys: the first was answered by 1\,200 residents and captured their perceptions about trees and barriers that they’ve experienced in planting them\, and the second went to regional greening organizations and municipal foresters and identified strategies that the groups are using to successfully work with residents. Attendees will learn more about the motivations that residents have to plant or not plant trees\, and about how collaboration across organizations may better serve residents of the Chicago region. \n\n\n\nRegister here. The webinar is free. This research was made possible by a grant through the TREE Fund.

SUMMARY:Invasive Plant Management Workshop Events
DESCRIPTION:Back By Popular Demand \n\n\n\nMany people in southeastern Wisconsin work to control exotic invasive plants in our natural areas. SEWISC is teaming with Johnson’s Nursery\, Inc.TM to offer our Invasive Plant Management Workshops twice annually. SUMMARY:FREE Urban Forestry Webinar: Approaches to Dealing With Circling Roots on Container-Grown Trees - A Prelude to the WAA Fall Seminar
DESCRIPTION:Container-grown trees are increasingly popular in a range of urban forestry and landscape applications. However\, arborists and landscapers are often concerned about defects associated with container growing. Dr. Bert Cregg and members of his lab have researched various approaches to dealing with root systems of container-grown trees over the past decade. In this webinar\, Dr. Cregg will highlight key findings from his group’s research and discuss practical implications for tree planters. \n\n\n\nJoin us for this FREE live webinar that is a prelude to the WAA Fall Seminar which ties into Dr. Cregg’s talk called “Quit Going in Circles: Managing Roots of Container-Grown Trees.” \n\n\n\n0.5 CEUs available \n\n\n\nPre-registration is required. Click on ‘Register Online’ on the right side of the screen to register. \n\n\n\nAbout the Speaker\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDr. Bert Cregg is a Professor in the Departments of Horticulture and Forestry at Michigan State University. He conducts research and extension programming on the physiology and management of trees\, with a focus on nursery and Christmas tree production and urban forestry. Dr. Cregg has a Ph.D. in Forest Resources from the University of Georgia and was a research plant physiologist for the USDA Forest Service and International Paper before joining the faculty at MSU. \n\n\n\nSpecial Thanks!\n\n\n\nThank you to UW-Extension for coordinating this event with us. SUMMARY:2023 Indiana Arborist Association Tree Climbing Championship
DESCRIPTION:Event description\n\n\n\nThe Indiana Tree Climbing Championship provides a competitive but educational opportunity for working arborists to demonstrate and exchange new climbing techniques\, increase the interaction between various firms and members in the industry\, and provide positive public exposure for the profession. Professional tree climbing competitions that simulate working conditions of arborists in the field are held around the world to expand the platform for arborists to learn about the latest in climbing techniques and innovations in equipment. Showcasing the highest level of professional skills and safety\, this learning environment also introduces the public to the skills professional tree climbing arborists must use for safe\, professional tree work. \n\n\n\nThe contestants must compete in five preliminary events\, Work Climb\, Aerial Rescue\, Throwline\, Ascent Event\, and Speed Climb.
