SUMMARY:The biology and management of the invasive spotted lanternfly\, Lycorma delicatula
DESCRIPTION:The biology of the invasive spotted lanternfly poses a uniquely challenging threat to many agricultural crops\, ornamentals\, and\, to a lesser extent\, forests. Spotted lanternflies are highly polyphagous\, can inhabit a wide climatic range\, and thus have the potential to become established in many regions of the United States. Additionally\, SLF females often lay their eggs on personal vehicles\, commercial trucks\, train cars\, and many other items\, all of which increase the probability that SLF may be accidentally moved into new habitat ranges. Successful management incorporate an integrative approach including: a community education & reporting system\, selected insecticide applications by state and federal agencies\, and education\, training\, and permitting of commercial and business operations moving in and out of quarantine zones. The complex biology of this adaptable insect pest requires a multi-disciplinary approach and there is much still to learn about SLF biology.

SUMMARY:2022 WAA/WIDNR IN-PERSON Annual Conference
DESCRIPTION:Palindrome Dates 22022 & 22222: Looking Forward\, Not Backwards\, to Our Days in Arboriculture!February 20-22\, 2022Hyatt & KI Convention Center • Green Bay\, WI \n\n\n\nAfter a two-year hiatus\, we are ecstatic to be back in person in Green Bay for the WAA & WIDNR Annual Winter Conference! We have another fabulous line-up this year you won’t want to miss! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVirtual Option \n\n\n\nThe 2022 WAA/WIDNR VIRTUAL Annual Conference will be available for viewing on the Pheedloop Platform March 1-31\, 2022. This will be a professionally recorded conference and will offer an improved experience over last year’s virtual offering. This is a repeat performance of our In-Person Conference from February 20-22\, 2022. \n\n\n\nWatch the sessions at your own pace! The platform will be available for a full four weeks.  This seminar will include around 30 hours of virtual learning and engagement with approximately 30 CEUs available through online quizzes. You must pass the quiz with an 80% (16 of 20 correct for a one-hour session) to attain CEUs. Results will be given upon completion of each quiz\, as the quiz may be taken as often as necessary to pass. WAA will submit the passing results to ISA for you to receive your CEUs. \n\n\n\nEach person must provide their own email address and Certification number (even if one person is registering multiple people) if they want CEUs.  Participants will receive an email invite to the Pheedloop Platform the day before the event starts. Login details will be included.  More information and registration is available at our 2022 WAA/WIDNR VIRTUAL Annual Conference event page. \n\n\n\nTO PAY FOR VIRTUAL ONLY – PLEASE GO HERE: https://www.waa-isa.org/tribe-events/2022-waa-widnr-virtual-annual-conference/\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHealth and Safety Measures (in-person event) \n\n\n\nThe WAA takes the health and safety of its membership\, conference attendees\, and exhibitors seriously. We will be adhering to all current CDC guidelines along with following Hyatt/KI Convention Center guidelines. We will have hand sanitizing stations and masks available. Event spaces will be professionally disinfected each evening. The KI Convention Center utilizes a PureChem System in meeting rooms and guestrooms\, effectively eliminating 99.997% of bacteria\, virus\, algae\, mold\, and fungus on treated surfaces. Seating will be arranged to encourage social distancing. In addition\, food will be served in accordance with CDC guidelines\, i.e.\, individually packaged or served by professional food staff.  Please do check the website for updated guidelines\, as information may change frequently. \n\n\n\nA negative COVID test will be required of all in-person attendees regardless of vaccination status. All conference attendees are required to show documentation of a negative viral test result taken within 72 hours of arrival to the conference. If you recently recovered from COVID-19\, you may instead travel with documentation of recovery from COVID-19 (i.e.\, your positive COVID-19 viral test result on a sample taken no more than 90 days before the conference and a letter from a licensed healthcare provider or a public health official stating that you were cleared to attend). A COVID symptom and contact health screening will also be required to attend the conference. \n\n\n\nFacemasks will be required in all areas of the Hyatt and the KI Convention Center.  We will have limited capacity at the KI Convention Center with the maximum number of registrants set at 462 attendees (not including exhibitors).  Once capacity is met\, registration will close.  WE WILL NOT BE ACCEPTING ANY WALK-UP REGISTRATIONS.  The WAA will not have the capacity to police or enforce any safety protocols. All participants will depend solely on the goodwill and professionalism of our membership to follow safety protocol and protect one another. \n\n\n\nCOVID Testing Requirements & FAQ’s\n\n\n\n Isolation and Quarantine Guidelines/Flowchart \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nHotel Information – Blocks are NOW CLOSED! \n\n\n\nReservations can now be made for the annual conference.  We have blocks in three hotels this year! \n\n\n\nHyatt (host hotel)= Attached to KI Convention Center at 333 Main St. $116/night for a double\, $136/night for a triple\, $156/night for a quad occupancy\, 402-592-6464 or 888-421-1442 or online https://www.hyatt.com/en-US/group-booking/GRBRG/G-AA22 Please make reservations before January 29\, 2022. \n\n\n\nHampton Inn = Attached to KI Convention Center at 201 Main St.\, $129/night for a double queen\, 800-457-2929 or 920-437-5900.  Indicate you are with the Arborist Group Block.  Please make hotel reservations before January 20\, 2022. \n\n\n\nHotel Northland – 1 block from KI Convention Center at 302 N. SUMMARY:Long-term Impacts and Management of Emerald Ash Borer
DESCRIPTION:The emerald ash borer\, an invasive insect\, has spread from its initial introduction in Michigan and killed millions of ash trees across the region. All six ash species native to its introduced range are susceptible to this pest\, and the effects of EAB differ in the different kinds of ecosystems inhabited by these different ash species. Our long-term monitoring program has provided insights into the impacts of EAB on forests and on the long-term dynamics of ash species. Looking to the future\, integrated pest management strategies can be used in situation-specific combinations to reduce and mitigate effects of EAB.

This qualification promotes the safety of people and property by providing a standardized and systematic process for assessing tree risk. \nThe results of a tree risk assessment can provide tree owners and risk managers with the information to make informed decisions to enhance tree benefits\, health\, and longevity. The Tree Risk Assessment Qualification Course is a two-day educational course followed by a 1/2 day assessment that includes both a written and field component. The course prepares the participant to take the TRAQ assessment to become ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualified. It is required that you attend the course and successfully complete the assessment in order to receive the ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualification. 14.5 CEUs. \n  \nHosted by: The Wisconsin Arborist AssociationInstructor: Mr. Don RoppoloDon Roppolo is the Manager of Arboricultural Training for Davey Tree. He has been working in the tree care industry for over twenty-five years. During his career he has worked in the following capacities: taught arboriculture skills at universities and technical colleges\, municipal forestry\, arboricultural research\, and for the past sixteen years has worked in commercial arboriculture. He holds a bachelor of science in Agriculture with an emphasis in urban forestry from Western Illinois University\, and a master of science in Natural Resources with and emphasis in urban forestry from the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point. \nCOURSE CONTENT \nTree Biology and Mechanics: Participants will learn how to assess wood structure\, decay\, and tree mechanics\, and evaluate their impact on likelihood of tree or tree part failure. Participants will also learn how to identify and assess defects and conditions that may affect likelihood of failure. Tree Inspection and Assessment: Participants will learn about types of targets\, assess the likelihood of a tree or tree part impacting a target\, and estimate the consequences of tree or tree part failure. Participants will also learn how to assess site factors that may influence likelihood of failure. \nData Analysis and Risk Categorization: After learning the tree and target factors that must be assessed\, participants will combine likelihood of failure\, likelihood of impact\, and consequences of failure to derive a risk rating. This rating helps the assessor communicate tree risk to clients and risk managers\, and allows comparison of risk levels between trees. \nRisk Reporting: Participants will learn skills for clearly communicating tree risk to clients\, both in written and verbal reports. Participants will also learn about the key components that should be included in a report after completing a tree risk assessment. \nTREE RISK ASSESSMENT QUALIFICATION INFORMATIONThe Tree Risk Assessment Qualification is valid for five years from the date the TRAQ exam is passed.
We are introducing a web development software for facilitating tree species selection for urban projects. We consider a multicriteria decision involving infrastructure conditions\, site conditions\, aesthetics and climate. We also consider not only present climate appropriateness but also future climate pertinence. The variables involved in the software were validated by multiple stakeholders including private and public actors working with urban vegetation. We expect this tool to improve the performance of trees in urban areas given that it can also inform not expert of better urban trees decision making.  \n\n\n\nTime Length of Presentation: 30 minutes \n\n\n\nPresenter Name: Dra.
