He was honored as the 2023 Alex L. Shigo Award for Excellence in Education and the 2018 & 2024 L.C. Chadwick Award for Arboricultural Research. He has published over 200 publications and presented over 500 talks throughout the world.\n\n\n\nSydney Hudzinski – Sydney Hudzinski started in the industry in 2019. She spent her first year working on obtaining her credentials. She recognized a gap in onboarding and mentoring in the industry. She has always been passionate about paving a better way for the next generation\, so she started training and mentoring. She now works for the City of Plymouth. She stays active in the industry by going to multiple climbing competitions a year\, volunteering with the MSA\, and instructing at The Women’s Tree Climbing Workshop.\n\n\n\nTim Walsh – Tim Walsh is the VP of Safety & Training at Townsend Company\, LLC.  Tim has a Doctorate in ergonomics and safety and has a Master’s degree in ergonomics. He has Master’s and Bachelor’s degrees in Urban Forestry from UWSP.  Tim is a Certified Treecare Safety Professional\, an ISA Certified Arborist and Certified Tree Worker Climber Specialist. He was a voting member of the 2022 revision of the ANSI Z133 and has been involved with the Accredited Standards Committee Z133 for several revisions. He serves on the Utility Arborist Association (UAA) Board of Directors and is the Champion for UAA Safety Committee and has served as the chair of the UAA Professional Development Committee.  Tim has also been a climbing arborist for more than 35 years\, has owned his own business\, worked as a contract climber and worked with companies around the world.\n\n\n\nShelly Wollerman – Shelly Wollerman has 10 years experience in production tree care\, 3 years experience as a trainer\, and is the Owner/Operator of Soteria Training Solutions. DESCRIPTION:**WAA May 9th Day of Service Rescheduled**Due to scheduling conflicts\, the WAA Day of Service at Rosholt Lions Camp will be re-scheduled to a date to be determined in fall.If any members are interested\, there will still be a group of students performing work at the Lions Camp this Friday (May 8) as part of their Arborist Operations Class.We will keep everyone posted on the new date when finalized\, and we look forward to seeing you this fall! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nVOLUNTEERS NEEDED! Click here for sign-up genius \n\n\n\nWe are hosting the first 2026 Day of Service at the WI Lion’s Camp. The site address is 3834 County Rd A\, Rosholt\, WI 54473. The event is scheduled for Saturday\, May 9th. \n\n\n\nThe Lion’s Camp in Rosholt\, WI is a 440 acre property that includes a 45 acre private lake to provide quality camp experiences for Wisconsin youth and adults with disabilities at no charge. The Wisconsin Arborist Association had a successful work day in April of 2017 but since then there have been some severe weather events on the grounds that caused damage. The camp is in need of various forms of tree care ranging from pruning to removals. Some of the work needed is over the camp cabins and recreation center as well as removing hazards from the site. It would be beneficial to have bucket trucks and chippers. The larger wood can be used at the camp fire pit and chips can be used on the trails so debris will not need to be hauled off site. \n\n\n\nOur work day will start at 8am. All volunteers bringing heavy equipment such as bucket trucks\, chip trucks\, and lifts\, please bring proper cones and signage to set up a safe work area. We plan to begin work around the main cabins and buildings before moving to the golf area to remove dead ash and other trees. This scope is dependent on the final number of participants.Lunch and refreshments will be provided by the Lion’s Camp. DESCRIPTION:We are pleased to announce the fourth year of our Youth T-shirt contest!  We hope all our members will encourage a child between the ages of 8 and 14 years old to submit a drawing.  \n\n\n\nOur 2026 theme will be “Trees for Food” \n\n\n\nHere are the rules: \n\n\n\n\n A child (or children) must simply be sponsored by a WAA member (there is no cost\, but you must be a current member).  The WAA member is responsible for submitting a scan of the drawing (Please keep the original!) to the Editorial Chair at briana@treehealthmgmt.com.\n\n\n\nAn E-Blast will be sent in late July when the contest will be live and announced on our website.\n\n\n\nThe drawing must be in black and white and must be submitted by August 13th\, 2026 by 5:00pm.\n\n\n\nOnly one drawing per child will be accepted.\n\n\n\nA panel of judges will meet afterwards to select three finalists. The winning design will be voted on by current WAA members. All childrens’ names will be kept anonymous until a winner has been selected.\n\n\n\nThe winner will need to submit the original drawing via US Post or submit a high-quality digital scan (instructions will be provided).  The drawing will be the new apparel design for WAA clothing in 2027.  Apparel will be available for purchase to membership\, and our winner will receive a choice of a free WAA T-shirt or sweatshirt.\n\n\n\nAll participants will have their drawing showcased in a digital format on the WAA website.\n\n\n\nQuestions? SUMMARY:2026 WAA Tree Climbing Championship
DESCRIPTION:Climbers from around WI compete to see who is the best of the best. The best man and best woman climbers will be sent to compete in the ITCC.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nLegion Park – 1212 Charles St.\, DePere\, WI 54115\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nFriday will include gear check\, walk-through\, and ascent and belayed speed climbing events. \n\n\n\nSaturday will be the remaining preliminary events and preliminary awards. \n\n\n\nSunday will be the Master’s Challenge and final awards. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nThe success of our event would not be possible without the support of our many great Sponsors and Volunteers. Sign up early and come join us to compete or help\, you won’t regret the experience!\n\n\n\n\n\nClimbers and volunteers will receive CEUs!\n\n\n\n\n\nYou must pre-register for this competition\, and competitors must be current WAA members.  We are accepting 40 Wisconsin competitors and 5 Out of State competitors.  Register on time\, as the number of contestants is limited.  In agreement with other ISA chapters\, competitors may compete in only one chapter championship per year\, preferably their home chapter.  Contestants will be scheduled for all 5 preliminary events. \n\n\n\n\n\nIf registration fills up\, please contact Tina to be put on a waiting list\, including Out-of-State! \n\n\n\n\n\nWinners of the 2026 TCC will represent WI at the International TCC in 2027.\n\n\n\n\n\nView WAA Code of Conduct prior to registering. DESCRIPTION:OverviewThis course focuses on first aid for tree care professionals and the injuries common on the job site. We split students into groups and practice first aid treatments with each other. A short portion of the course is outside\, but 95% of the class is indoors. This qualification promotes the safety of people and property by providing a standardized and systematic process for assessing tree risk. \n\n\n\nThe results of a tree risk assessment can provide tree owners and risk managers with the information to make informed decisions to enhance tree benefits\, health\, and longevity. The Tree Risk Assessment Qualification Course is a two-day educational course followed by a 1/2 day assessment that includes both a written and field component. The course prepares the participant to take the TRAQ assessment to become ISA Tree Risk Assessment Qualified. He was honored as the 2023 Alex L. Shigo Award for Excellence in Education and the 2018 & 2024 L.C. Chadwick Award for Arboricultural Research. He has published over 200 publications and presented over 500 talks throughout the world. \n\n\n\nCOURSE CONTENT \n\n\n\nTree Biology and Mechanics: Participants will learn how to assess wood structure\, decay\, and tree mechanics\, and evaluate their impact on likelihood of tree or tree part failure. Participants will also learn how to identify and assess defects and conditions that may affect likelihood of failure. Tree Inspection and Assessment: Participants will learn about types of targets\, assess the likelihood of a tree or tree part impacting a target\, and estimate the consequences of tree or tree part failure. Participants will also learn how to assess site factors that may influence likelihood of failure. \n\n\n\nData Analysis and Risk Categorization: After learning the tree and target factors that must be assessed\, participants will combine likelihood of failure\, likelihood of impact\, and consequences of failure to derive a risk rating. This rating helps the assessor communicate tree risk to clients and risk managers\, and allows comparison of risk levels between trees. \n\n\n\nRisk Reporting: Participants will learn skills for clearly communicating tree risk to clients\, both in written and verbal reports.
