SUMMARY:FREE Urban Forestry Webinar: Do You Know the Ascomycete Wood Decayers of Urban Trees? - A Prelude to the WAA/DNR Annual Conference
DESCRIPTION:Most arborists recognize that mushrooms\, brackets and conks of the basidiomycete fungi on urban trees indicate internal decay. However\, one of the most important wood decay fungi is also one of the most obscure. Kretzschmaria deusta is an ascomycete wood decay pathogen with a very wide host range and one that can break barrier and reaction zones and cause extensive decay in the lower trunk and buttress roots. This presentation will discuss ascomycete wood decay by focusing on Kretzschmaria deusta and other ascomycete wood decay fungi. \n\n\n\nJoin us for this FREE live webinar that is a prelude to the WAA/DNR Annual Conference which ties into Dr. Luley’s talk called “Biology\, Identification and Management of Wood Decay in Urban Trees.” \n\n\n\n0.5 CEUs available \n\n\n\nPre-registration is required. Luley\, Ph.D. has BS and MS from SUNY ESF in Syracuse in Forest Pathology. His Ph.D. is from Iowa State University in plant pathology where he also managed the Plant Diagnostic Clinic. He was Forest Pathologist for the State of Missouri\, and has been a consultant since 1991. In 2017 he started Urban Forest Diagnostic. Dr. Luley has over 70 scientific\, technical and popular press articles and received the R. W. Harris Authors Award from the International Society of Arboriculture. He developed TreeRot.com and recently received the Brian Skinner Lifetime Achievement Award from the NYS Arborist\, ISA Chapter and author award from the Midwest Chapter of ISA.   \n\n\n\nSpecial Thanks!\n\n\n\nThank you to UW-Extension for coordinating this event with us. DESCRIPTION:5 Week Workshop – Monday and Thursday evenings starting January 22 – February 19\, 2024. Every Monday and Thursday will be 6:30pm – 9:00pm.  Over the 5 weeks (9 sessions)\, we will be covering each of the domains associated with the certified arborist exam.  The following week (Monday\, February 26th)\,  we will be offering a certified arborist exam in conjunction with the Annual Conference in Green Bay\, WI.  The cost of the exam is separate and paid directly to ISA. Information will be forthcoming on the exam.  The exam will be available for everyone\, not just class participants.  So if you want to take the exam\, it is best to start the application process early. The cost of the annual conference is a separate fee as well\, if you wish to attend.  Information will be forthcoming on the WAA website. \n\n\n\nThis is an VIRTUAL course.  You are welcome to register for the full course.
